To recap.

1. I live in Toronto

2. Toronto is in Canada

3. It is cold in Canada

4. We live just a few blocks from Lake Ontario

5. Lake Ontario is also cold - but not frozen.

Now that we have that straight, SWMBO and I were walking along a beach near our house yesterday and there was a woman in a bikini drying off from her New year's Day swim. She and her partner were then trying to figure out getting her discretely dressed with only a towel to provide modestly on a very very windy day. Needless to say we were similarly discrete but still.

As we were standing by the beach we also noticed a fellow out in the lake with a kiteboarder

We on the other hand stayed warm and dry - sheesh.

Good one Doc.

We have an annual polar bear swim here. Of course, the Pacific Ocean here is always cold.

That was always an event in Pittsburgh where the Allegheny meets the Monongahela. Some folk jus' got no sense.

apparently they encouraged socially distant polar bear dips this year.

When I was high school aged in the 70s and a swimmer, we used to sort of polar bear dip for a couple hours every evening. The school to save money turned off the heat in the pool around noon and the are where it was had a glassless window with slats to let the night air in. We once brought in a thermometer to find the water temp, it was mid 50s that day. We all decided we were better off not knowing after that. But it did give us an advantage for home meets when other teams dove in...
