Fun project this week end

I'm going to be replacing the drum bearings in my almost 20 year old Sears Kenmore front-loadnig washer this weekend. It's needed it for a while, but lately the thing has been sounding like a freight train when it hits spin cycle. Sears won't sell just the bearings - they want near $400 for the entire drum! I was able to source just the bearings and seal and found a couple great videos on Youtube on "how to" (doesn't seem that bad). Also replacing the drive belt just on principle (can't believe it has a 20 year old belt that's never broken).

I took some video before the repair and will take some after to compare the sound level.

Sounds like a fun way to start out the new year.

It's needed a new bearing for a while now but I've just been putting it off. My New Year's Resolution is that I will have a quieter spin cycle in 2021 LOL!

Pace yourself. I think of these projects as little blessings in the time of pandemic. Finished replacing a problematic kitchen sink faucet - a Mohen - with success. Today I plan to install a Roku streaming device on a TV, purchased just 4 years ago, that is not sufficiently "smart" for new apps and features.

Today I took everything apart so that the only thing left is to remove the drum, take off the clips that hold. the two halves together then put the back half on a 5 gal bucket and drift out the bearings and replace. My son is coming over Sunday to help me with. the lst part.

While I was in there I determined. that the four shocks that absorb drum vibrations need to be changed too, so I've ordered a set of the shocks too. Fortunately those are easy to replace.

You Tube to the rescue again.

Last week I got in our 2009 Impala to go to the store. It would not shift into gear. The transmission lock solenoid had stopped working. A few minutes on YT and had the most probable cause of the problem, the solution and the part number for the small connector needed.

At least your front loader was not Samsung. They had a habit of the drum mounting frame corroding away and breaking. The frame was $50.00 and the outer drum and seal that had to be replaced as well because the frame failure destroyed the seal was $500.00.
