Car Shipping to Europe

The "We have parted ways" thread talked about saying farewell to a vehicle, and having her/him/it shipped to Jolly Olde (and other destinations).

I didn't want to hijack that thread, but was curious as to who the various members have used for transportation, approximate costs, prep work required, etc., as I've had the occasional dream of riding my old Buell motorcycle in Iceland and Scandanavia, or having our Manx clone dune buggy over there and wandering, and turning the keys over to other family members (i.e. grandchildren) so they could explore. Of course, I was also planning on having my biography as a retired rock star completed by now, but that plan hasn't quite come to fruition.

Thanks, Doug

Google is your friend . There are lots of car brokers out there .
I sold the car to the guy in the UK . He selected his broker and paid them ,they transferred the funds to me ,the car was picked up at my house and went to Toronto then to Montreal and on a boat to the UK . The brokerage company took care of everything for the new owner , licensing , safety inspection etc etc they then delivered the car directly to the new owner .
literally door to door service .
cost was about 7K CAN .
no prep work other than make sure all the paperwork is in the car when it leaves , didn’t have to remove fuel or oils or anything .
It was very easy .

About 10 years ago I sold a TR4 to someone in the UK. The buyer paid with a wire transfer and made all the shipping arrangements and provided me with required documents. The car was picked up by a car carrier at my home in Western Mass and driven to Port Elizabeth, NJ where it was loaded into a shipping container. About 3-4 weeks later it was unloaded in the UK, and apparently damaged by a fork lift during the unloading process. One word of caution...I was hit with an unanticpated charge after the car was delivered (export fee or funds transfer fee? can't recall). The buyer said he felt my pain but was unwilling to cover any of the fee.

Can either of you gentlemen remember who the companies were that you dealt with? I contacted a couple of outfits a few years ago from the Internet, but didn't get much in the way of useful responses. Thanks, Doug

Can't remember the names and I have cleaned out my emails.
I know a couple of the ones I looked up actually gave you a quote online.
All they needed was where to, car value, is it drivable, etc., etc., and bingo here’s how much.
Make sure you select enclosed transport if the car is valuable.

Last year I bought a car that was based near Atlanta in Georgia . I used a shipping company here in the UK to bring it home ,door to door . They’re called Kingstown shipping and are based in Hull . I thought they were great . No issues at all

Cars Europe are very good. The organise everything from shipping to, import tax and registration. They are based in Suffolk. You often see their trucks at race meeting.

I would contact Steve Kirby. Steve is president of the Austin-Healey Association of Southern California and he is also chairman of the upcoming (in May) 2021 Conclave.

Additionally, Steve is an expert tour planner - and I'm not talking about afternoon drives; I'm talking about multi-week, multi-country tours - and he arranges shipment of cars overseas. He's done it several times. He really knows the ropes.

His email is: sackirby@chinaautogroup.com

I found the quote I got for the guy in the UK that bought my 64 . Ship my car UK , it was just over 3K in pounds so whatever that converts to in $$ .
It was door to door service with all the paperwork and inspections etc done .
I don’t think the buyer actually used them in the end , he picked his own shipping service , I just got the quote out of curiosity to help him along with the sale .

Who gave you the quote Healey Nut?
I filled out the on-line application for one of the outfits two weeks back, but haven't heard anything. Purely intellectual research at the moment, but want to at least understand what the costs involved are. Next step would be to figure out how to insure a vehicle over there that would not be registered in any specific country (if that is possible). Thanks guys. Got snow yesterday. Healey is tucked away, but the dune buggy and the bugeye are languishing outside as I try to figure out best to store them. Doug

Very recently I got a quote to ship a car from Australia to U.K. from a company called CARS Europe, based in U.K.
They are very well known for moving classics and racing cars. The pickup from Aus home to port and packing was about $500, shipping in container $2500, import fees registration etc $500 plus import duty which is 5 percent of the car invoiced purchase price in ÂŁ. They also do all the car registration in U.K. then deliver car to my house. These are rough figures from memory but not far out. The car was high value. In the end car purchase deal fell through.

The buyer of my 64 in the UK did email me to let me know he got the car safe n sound with no damage although it was very dusty from being in the container and various storage areas . It did take longer than expected to arrive all due to Covid and by the time it arrived it was basically time to put it away for the British winter . It didn’t arrive at the buyers until the beginning of October . It left my house on June 4th . Tks Covid .
PS . He was extremely pleased with the car and I’m sure he will stay in touch with me once he starts driving it .

could you please tell me what company was that? Dude, we living in the 21st century, you got google, and you can find out basically everything you need in there. However, as usual the buyer is the one that has to pay for the shipping and make all the arrangements. You can lower the price a bit, so he would not be having any kind of problems with it. I actually bought a couple of cars from the U.S.A in the past. I was always using the services of Guardian as they are probably the best car shipping company, and they might help you with all the arrangements, for an extra payment, for sure.
You really think that he remembers?! however you are right, you could easily find tons of car shipping companies on google

There are many companies involved in transporting cars to Europe. I put my car up for sale on one site. And some dude from Ukraine wanted to buy it. I asked him in private messages if he was right. How was he going to get it across the ocean? He said it's very popular for them to buy a car from us. Because it's a lot cheaper, even with customs duty. So I think you can find a car shipping services that will get your car to Europe, right where you plan to stay. And all you have to do is find out when they deliver it, and enjoy the ride.

I shipped my 1960 TR3a to Zeebrugge, Belgium in June 2019 for the LBL Rally, and I am doing it again for the TR's Pyrenees Rally October 2021. I use DJ Powers in Brunswick, Georgia as my "go to" Company. The Manager for Brunswick is Virginia Higgins, tell her I gave you her name. My car gets shipped from Brunswick to Zeebrugge on 6 September and arrives 22 September. My Hagerty's Overseas drivers insurance begins on 1 October 2021, and so will pick the car up then. The Rally is 8-18 October 2021 thru southeastern France/northeastern Spain for roughly 2400 miles or so. But I am also picking up my navigator in Augsburg, Germany, and then driving through Switzerland to France for the Rally. Shipping costs including customs on both ends average to about $1200 dollars each way, maybe a little less from Port to Port. I drive my car to and from the ports and do not pay a trucking firm. I hope this helps whoever needs it? Jeff
