Other than Moss, who's still building 5 speed conversions? I understand some are using more modern transmissions that are readily available and not the old British Ford boxes that are becoming museum pieces. PJ
 
Not still building; mine has been done a long time. I have the HVDA conversion with a Toyota W-58 5-speed. It’s been problem free.

Edit: the conversion is in my TR-6

I don't know if it will work in a T series, but British Motor Heritage lists a Vitesse gearbox built using brand-new Mazda 5 speeds with custom bell housing and tail peices to work in the MGA and MGB as a bolt-in replacement - if an MGA gearbox will fit in a T series you could probably make one of those Vitesse units work.
 
Just checked several models on Vitesse site, all of which are listed as "SOLD OUT" - including MGA and MGB. No idea why or what that means for the future.
 
If I ever got another TD (?), I would definitely try to install a MK 11 or TF differential (4.875 as I recall) to go along with a 5-speed box which would bring the piston revs down to a more reasonable level. The stock rear is 5.125/1.
