Bugeye pull starter

Well, we’ve made some progress on my buddy’s Bugeye, but the replacement pull starter switch sticks with a passion. Everything works as it should, but it feels like it’s welding itself together when you pull it. I either pull the battery cable or knock the starter switch back down to get it to stop...what gives?

Crap Asian quality????? Maybe use it to actuate a relay oooorrrr maybe there is too much of a load from a starter with problems.

Crap Asian quality is my vote. Good GR starter that actually fits!

Go for a relay.

It is a stock starter or a GR unit. GR unit has a built in Solenoid/relay so there should not be a load on the pull switch.
If stock Lucas then the pull switch is at full motor draw. Could be a problem with the starter causing the overcurrent.
I run an old Ford solenoid with a stock starter.

Joe,
The pull starter is a repro and the GR starter has the solenoid wire jumped to the + terminal on the starter. IIRC it’s set up the same way the original was.

Simple solution then, Rut. GR starter just needs a dedicated big cable to the starter solenoid and the switch only needs to run the solenoid!
