General TR tire age code

"The date of manufacture is the last four digits of the DOT code. The first two digits are the week of manufacture, and the last two digits are the year. For example, if the last four digits of the DOT code are 0203, that means that the tire was manufactured during the second week of the year 2003."

Unless it's a *very* old tire, the four digit code does what you want.

Yes, prior to this century I believe the code used a single digit year (i.e. WWY rather than WWYY). And prior to that I do not think there was a consistent use of date codes.

But at this point if it doesn't have a 4-digit code then actual age is irrelevant - they're too old.

BTW - the date code is usually just on one side of the tire. I always mount that side out (unless they are rotational specific tires) but not all do that so the dates may be hidden on the inboard side.
