TR2/3/3A Purpose of the hole in a bracket

See attached a photo of the bracket from the TR3 rear mudguard for the stay. The small hole is for the bolt that holds the stay and bracket together. What is the large hole for?

It actually is positioned vertically when installed...so maybe windage. In fact...maybe it is there to make the ole’ cartoon bomb whistle when the TR is at speed!

Lionel, the only thing I can think of, and it is a maybe, that someone fit some of those fender skirts and used the hole for a mounting point. I am confident you could make some skirts and they do look kinda cool.

Good thinking. Have seen them and they are quite neat. Will have a look for some photos to consider the option.
