TR2/3/3A Original Purolator Oil Filter Canister

I always get confused as to with one of the 3 seals or gaskets I'm supposed to use when changing the oil using the original Purolator Oil Filter Canister. The 3 seals are very similar in size. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

Yes I know what you mean. I use the one that is not too tall so it could twist over and not seal and not use the one that is too thin because too thin might not seal. Kind of a Goldie Locks middle. I also use a straight pin in a pair of vise grips and jab the old rubber and pull the old seal out that way.

The thin one is fairly easy to pick out. But holding the other 2 side by side, it is still a bit difficult with my old eyes to pick out the one that is not too tall. At times I go back and forth as there appears to be just a hair difference between them.

In just shy of 20 years (2x per year) I have always used the skinny gasket with no problems. To pull out the old gasket I went to a dentist friend and asked to have one of his old steel teeth picks and that pick works very well (free beats any price at a tool center). I remember once going to NAPA for the filter, filter was right but the gasket enclosed was just a tad too big in diameter and have since ordered filter from TRF.

I have measured the slot in the the housing to be .100" wide & .187" deep. A skinny seal may tip and squirm and too tall likewise.. Crossland has one w/o color code as .100"x.123" ( My choice.) MM pt # 435-341 is .085-.090 X .130-.135 a close choice. Le T.
 
I just purchased a Classic Gold oil filter from TRF (GFE-104) which has 2 seals (not 3). Can anyone please tell me which one they use on their TR3 with the original Purolator Oil Filter Canister. Thanks.

the slot is .100"x.187" deep. Pick one that best fit slot.
