Rick, Without looking at the Bat advertisment yet I remember seeing that car. It was at Amelia Island about 2 years ago. I also believe that Classic Motorsport magazine did an article on it. Or i saw it in some mag. The pink is supposely an original colour.

G'day Rick,
I note on the Heritage certificate that the original trim is described as black with pink piping. But the car now has pink with black piping.
Cheers, Alwyn

It's been agreed that BMIHT has the order reversed; Alan scrubbed enough of the dye off the original leather to confirm the combination.

It has Gerry Coker's approval, that should be enough ;)

Randy is correct, pink is the original color of the seating. The backstory of this car is quite interesting. Al bought it from noted 100S collector Bill Wood, neither one knowing at the time what its provenance was. The interior had been re-dyed, but Al found a piece of hardura in the car that was pink and that set off the search to discover its history. It's amusing to read comments about whether any part of this restoration was "incorrect". Al researched this car carefully with the help of Roger Moment and others. And as far as his execution of the restoration goes, "Alan" could well be an anagram for another word that would describe his attention to detail. In fact, he was counting stitches per inch on the upholstery.

Well said, Rick! My brother is also Alan, but the anagram does NOT apply to him...

It's a beautiful car, and I'll be following the auction from the cheap seats

Now my wife want me to redo ours in these colors.

The late Frank Clarici, "SPRITENUT" on the forum, painted a BJ8 in those colors for his wife. After years of driving spritely Sprites, he found he absolutely hated the handling of the big Healey and sold the car. I think a lot of us who started out in Sprites expect a bigger version when we get into a big Healey and are surprised when it's not.

A solid reason to have BOTH!

I'd be surprised if the reserve was under $200k.

I thought that BaT was a non-intuitive choice for an auction venue for the car. I think that a Gooding or RM/Sothebys auction would be more likely to attract the money needed to buy it.

It'll be fun to follow.
