TR4/4A TR4A/TR250 what are they worth

I may have a possible opporturnity to buy one of the above cars. They have been stored for 30 years in a open, but roof covered shed, and are in orginial condition, as far as I can tell. I haven't had a good look at them yet, but think they are both solid as far as frame and sheet metal goes and engines turn freely. they are covered with 30 years of dust both inside and out. everything will have to be gone through replaced or rebuilt to get them back on the road. My question is what is a fair offer. The man who owns them knows british cars inside and out and wants me to make him an off. So I am trying to decide where to begin. I would rather have the TR250, but I am sure it would be considerably more than the TR4a.
I would like to hear some suggestions on what readers think these cars are worth. I know worth is what someone is willing to pay for something, but what is a reasonable offer?

When completely restored, the TR250 will be worth about $15K more than the TR4. Right now, both cars sound like they are junkyard quality. My offer would be in the hundreds.

Just a thought. Take a knowledgeable TR guy with you to look at the cars. They'll know the "bad spots" subject to rust. Georgia isn't exactly the driest place in the USA! (and you don't know what the cars need to make them roadworthy)

Asking us forum guys for what you should offer is quite a stretch, as we haven't seen them, and we don't know the details.

Don’t play his game. He is the SELLER and you are the BUYER. It is incumbant upon the seller to establish a price for the item he is SELLING. Ask HIM what he wants and use that number to negotiate a price you can live with.

If its the guy in GA I think it is then you are just wasting your time. He not going to sell them at fair price. He offers them once in a while to see if he can get someone to bite with a big price. His 250 on a good day is $6/8k , the 4a is $4kish at best. Decent cars, something needs to be done with them soon or they will be to far gone. This is based on condition from a couple of years ago.

I think you are being generous on the $ and he probably won’t accept twice the $ since he’s on a permanent fishing expedition. No reason not to make an offer on the low end of your suggestion.

An all there 250 is bringing $6/8k even if it is not running. Paid that for the one I am restoring now and it was bad rusty. I did get lead astray on it but thats the gamble buying sight unseen.

I agree with Marv, though it seems a little crazy, I bought my rusty restoration project for $5500 several years ago, right when the TR250 market was starting to take off.
