Early 3.8 E-Type. The parking brakes are petrified in place, outer bearing frozen and half disintegrated!

May as well be. Hard as rock. Had to scrape most of it off with screwdriver and putty knife. 40 years of neglect!

Found in a shop in Sarasota, FL. Friend and former partner is working on it. Shoulda soaked it in a vat of Weasel Pee. Here's what one of the hub bearings (or what's left of it) looked like:

I'm no expert, but that bearing may need replacing!

The owner didn't understand why the whole subframe needed to be out of the car to find the "noise" and fix the brakes... he knows now! Engel will be getting an extensive shopping list!
 
Those things sure are pretty when all cleaned up like that. I have a friend doing a "frame off" on a XK 140. Saw the frame a few weeks ago, powder coated and completely assembled in his garage except for the engine. Man you talk about something beautiful. He found a local shop that took his bare but still dirty frame, cleaned and powder coated it for $400. Engine is still being built by some hotshot in Wisconsin or Minnesota or some place north. Sorry, I didn't have a camera at the time.
 
That's hopefully about what this one will look like when finished. Love the shot of the parts in the livingroom! For years I kept a rebuilt MGB gearbox at the side of our sofa. Guests were perplexed.
 
Sure seemed like a great deal to me too.
