GT6 67-68 GT6 Mk1 exposed pushrod tube color?

Okay. This may be a tough question. Are there any original 67-68 GT6 Mk1 owners out there who can confirm the color (if any) of the exposed pushrod tubes? I put a magnet to them and determined they are aluminum. While Thomason in his Guide to Originality says they were not painted black like the rest of the engine, he says nothing more. My guess is unpainted, untreated aluminum. The were likely pressed in once the head was installed? Thanks, Jeff

I responded on the Spitfire/GT6 message board. I believe they were installed in the head before the head went on the engine and that they were just bare aluminum.

Doug is right, my son's were exposed aluminum.
Don't tank the head, you will have a mess.

Here is a photo of the one I had. This was taken in Apr 68. I purchased it new so other than some dirt it is still all original.

Thanks Tom, good to know some things I can remember.
I have one of those engines going in the Spit6 I'm building and had a set of the tubes for years. Had to use a couple on the rebuild of this one. No idea who has them anymore.
