Vistacam 900.... Anyone?

I am looking for a camera to setup with my z-wave VeraPlus.
Anyone have any experience with the Vistacam 900?

Short answer is that it's a communication protocol that allows z-wave devices to communicate with each other. You need a "hub". There are many manufacturers of hubs... I have the Veraplus hub. The hub acts as the master controller to take the "actions" you program into it. Currently I am controlling a water shut-off valve via z-wave water sensors placed around my house. If a leak is detected it will shut off the water and send me a text message. This is just one application; with z-wave you can automate just about anything in your home.
The house behind me was broken into last week and I want to install a security camera that will alert me and allow me to see what's going on in real time.
Put z-wave sensors on your new garage door or windows and if they are opened you will be notified.

You have more patience with gizmos and digital oversight than I have.

There seem to be many online reviews of the 700, but none of the 900. Might be a brand new model.

The reviews of the 700 seem average, altho' there are lots of less than stellar reviews of the Vera system as a whole.

Anyway, if you find reviews of the 900, please share here. Might be helpful to others.

I saw one review on Amazon for the 900 and it was rated 1 star (but this was only one review)/

I also saw that but with only one review it may not be credible. I'll probably get it since Amazon has a no hassle return policy.

Elliot - it's only one review, but ...

"The camera didn't connect to my VeraPlus at all. It wasn't even listed as an option and manual setup didn't work. I called Vera support. After 40 minutes and a firmware upgrade it still didn't work. When I requested a return, Vera suggested I wait for so to be released firmware the following week. I'm not a beta tester. If the product isn't ready, it shouldn't be sold.

Vera didn't pay for return shipping despite selling a product that didn't work at all. I also have yet to receive my refund despite Vera receiving the product last Wednesday (it's now Monday)."

Seems that even Vera acknowledged there's a problem meshing with the 900, and that was less than two months ago. Might want to check with Vera before you buy.

All could be true Tom or you have a disgruntled person with an agenda. I did post a question to Vera regarding the install process a few minutes ago.
I take some reviews with a "grain of salt" and consider the possible source of the reviewer.

Grain of salt. Same here. I just felt that if you contacted Vera about the 900 working with their VeraPlus systems, you'd get a straight answer, and find out if that one review was valid.

I'll be interested in what they say about the 900 compatibility.

Edit: also, if that reviewer said he was still waiting for his refund, that might indicate there's a glitch with the Amazon quick refund system with that item.

Vera sells direct as well so don't assume it's an Amazon issue.

Good to know. So Vera's answer to the 900 compatibility question is the issue.

Right, but it's hard to imagine they would introduce a product that doesn't integrate with their own hub.

Below is the response that I got from Vera; I didn't expect anything different. But hey, as long as I can put it back in the box and ship it back I'm OK with that.
Question: Has the Vistacam 900 been fully integrated with the Veraplus hub? Will the install process be seamless?

Answer: Yes, the VistaCam 900 is fully integrated with the VeraPlus hub. The install process should be quite simple utilizing the device wizard in the device list within the Vera UI.

Go for it!
