I was wanting to put an original radio in my Tr4. I found the Radio, but it was missing the correct knobs.

Come to find out the knobs that you can buy for at Retro Sound Radio fit and are nearly an exact copy.

were around $20 shipped.... and the Chrome one is metal....

Now I just need to get the radio fixed without costing $500.

That's a period radio from a British car - but would a TR4 ever have had a BMC radio? I realize radios were dealer items but the ones I am familiar with (and what came in mine) were Bendix units:

I don't mean to be critical - just thought I mention it before you sink serious $$$ into getting that one restored.

Yeah, that's good.

FWIW - I mounted mine with that chrome trim piece behind the support bracket and just the edge projecting through:

I really do not know which way is 'correct' (if there can even be a correct way).

Hmmmm, I need to hunt down one of these Triumph radio's. I think someone on here said they had a stash of them?

Good working Triumph radios are rare but shorted ones are relatively easy to find. Tom

Mine would be strictly for looks, or I would have it restored with BT and the like. So a working radio isn't a big deal. Just be odd to have a radio antenna on the car with no radio. :rapture:

That is great on the knobs, wish I had known earlier, I had a Triumph AM radio I ebayed off cheap because of missing knobs. I Thought they were pretty much universal in fit, if not design, but after messing around with a lot of old car radios discovered a lot of variation in shaft sizes, notches, etc.

If you hunt around you can find people local or maybe not so local that will fix old radios for a reasonable price. I have a NOS Pioneer analog unit in my TR250, not quite period correct, but looks more appropriate than a modern electronically tuned CD player. It had some issues with the cassette player. I contacted a guy who was sell refurbisjed units from the era (late 70s early 80s) on ebay, asked if he could fix it. $75 and a week turnaround, it works perfect now.

my local radio guy said he couldn't fix it for some reason. Do you have the contact of the EBay guy?

The kind of knob used on that radio was very common back in the day. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a set at an ordinary electronics distributor.
