Fender bolts

I may be jumping ahead some, as it may become more obvious when I put my shrouds in place, but here goes.

Are the placement, order and direction of the fender bolts correct on this pic?
For instance; Clip nut on fender, bolt and washer come through from the boot, threads go into the wheel well? Thread locker probably wouldn't do much for these bolts, right? Body sealer on/around the bolts?

Forget the factory fender bolts , the ones you get from the suppliers arent even concourse correct if thats what your after .
Just use regular 1/4" UNF bolts and nyloc nuts with fender washers that have the edge cut off to fit under the fender . You will need a helper to install them but you will get a better fit n finish than those crappy ACME thread things with clips that break .
Ok concourse gurus start throwing things at me:eagerness::eagerness:

Yes, the threads are in the wheel well. No, a thread locker won't do anything. I don't have body sealer on mine and they are holding just fine.

Are you referring to the kits from Moss? I've bought a couple and found them to be reasonably close to factory original (I think they're sourced in England). Dunno what you'd call the screw type; not machine nor sheet metal, more of a 'worm.'

YES!

I got some from one of the majors when I was doing the 67 .They had the sheet metal type thread and I tried a few and clips just broke or stripped out so I junked them and did it "my way" re-engineered it and it worked like a charm . Yes they were a pain to do with nuts and bolts you need arms like an oragutan to reach some of them and very flexible fingers but With patience I got it done .

I used fender bolts and clips from AH Spares and they worked fine. Don't use nuts because it will be a real pain if you ever try to remove them. And fitting them is much harder. Thats why they used clips.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm "dry fitting" this weekend.

The clips work fine, just don't over-tighten them. Getting regular nuts in some of thighter areas would be a real challenge. The ones I bought from Moss were identical to the originals except for the head markings and the fact they are "gold" colored and not "rusty" colored.....

Not being overly concerned with concours correct, I use whatever works best and still looks good. A combination of nuts, bolts, and washers and self threading bolts and the clips that pre-fit on the fenders, especially in hard to get at locations. Don't fully tighten the fasteners until the fender beads are pushed down into place after painting. A specialized body shop supplier should have high quality, made in USA or Canada, clips and bolts. I have much more faith in the quality of North American parts than in what most of the suppliers sell; there is no comparison between North American and most off-shore parts.
