General Tech Engine Teardown on the Way

Yes, I know..if you recall I suggested that scenario was your actual problem with whatever brand rings you had installed very early in this topic...but what I'm now asking is if you intend to use the technique that Hap used when he installed Grant rings.
As I mentioned in another of my post in this topic, I tried Grant rings and I ended up with very high oil consumption which also described on a previous page.
I can tell you that because of the angle of the 2 colored ends, they tend to overlap when the ring compressor is tightened around the piston....no matter how careful you are prior to that step.
There have been too many examples of that scenario to ignore, IMO.
But Hap figured out a way to prevent that with the overlap prone Grant ring.
And in case you missed it my asking you a couple of times about your intentions has only been an attempt to bring this experience with Grant to your attention and spare you of this overlap happening a second time.

For anyone who overlooked Hap Waldrops modification of the Grant rings in my post # 18, here is the link again:
Go down to about the middle of the page. There are 3 pictures of the Grant ring modification and a little higher up on the page in Post #18 is Hap's description and rationale of the process:

I may try that, but, sheesh, I'd almost rather order Hastings than figure that Grant would just manufacture theirs the way Hap says he bent his. That angle had to be for a purpose.

That's what I did...ordered Hastings rings separately when I replaced the pistons that come with Grant rings...That was before Hap posted his solution. I may have tried it.
