My wife couldn't stop laughing long enough

So my wife went to a play tonight with her Red Hats ladies group. They all met at a local community center and took a Van to the theater.

When Mary came home, she was obviously in a good mood and wanted to share something funny that had happened to one of the ladies.

Trouble was, every time she started to try and tell me, she couldn't get three words out before she broke into hard laughter - the kind where you can't breath and tears are rolling down your cheeks!

She'd say, "Dolores was getting out of the Van and....(hysterical laughter, tears)

"Dolores was ..... more hysterical laughter.

After awhile, I started laughing too, not even knowing yet what was so funny (it's contagious ya know).

Finally, after several attempts to control her laughter, she was finally able to get it out!

"Doloras, as she was getting out of the van, stepped on her skirt and pulled it completely off! Here she was, standing in the parking lot with her skirt completely down around her ankles!"

Apparently the other ladies could not contain themselves. All poor Dolores could do was say "I'm sure glad I had a slip on!"
 
True story (no, really):

Just a few weeks after beginning serving my last church, it was the end of a Sunday service. A ~matronly~ member of the parish - we'll call her "Edith" - known for being, shall we say, a "commanding" presence, pulled me aside in the middle of the center aisle as folks were leaving. It was always my tradition to greet as many people as possible at the end of each service, but it was clear Edith was going to monopolize the time and have her word with me. In fact, to be sure she kept the attention of her intended audience, she grabbed my arm and held on as she held court.

Right in the middle of whatever it was she was saying, her skirt fell to the floor around her ankles. Didn't stop her from carrying on, though, and I mustered whatever courage I had and said, "Ummm, Edith..." and proceeded to point to the floor and her faux pas. Didn't faze her a bit; she reached down, pulled up her skirt, and continued with her one-sided conversation. (Still have no idea what she was talking about!)

There are lots of "Edith" stories still passed along to this day around the parish.

She sounds like Mrs Richards! "Now, I ordered a room with a view!"
 
By coincidence we watched a "A Wonderful Life" last night:
& of course I thought about Dolores & Edith.

HA! Don't know about "Dolores", but "Edith" certainly didn't look as good as "Mary" (Donna Reed)!
 
Speaking of Donna Reed:
"The Donna Reed Show" Was a favorite of my Mom's.

I guess those family oriented shows of the '60's set the stage for the reality shows of today.

Here's a quote: (sounds just like the Kardashians, doesn't it?)

Reed described her show as "[...] a realistic picture of small town life with an often humorous twist. Our plots revolve around the most important thing in America—a loving family."

Many folks I know like to ridicule those simple shows from the 1950s and early 1960s. Definitely not reality!

But those shows gave people like me a goal to shoot for - an idea of what a better life could be.

don't know about that.....for quite awhile our lives were mirrored very well by "the Donna Reed Show", "Father Knows Best", "Leave it to Beaver" , etc. than by any reality show, sitcom, etc. of the last 10-20 years.

while I'm sure my parents had many issues & work a rounds, they always presented a unified front to us kids.
& Mom was THE dominate force at home. (kind of a cross between Donna Reed & Mammy Yokum.:
"I has spoken!".....but said in a nice way.)
