I don't necessarily agree that restoring an old part is the wisest, particularly in cases such as these. I bought reproductions fender spears from AH Spares in UK and found that the quality and workmanship are quite good. Many parts from Asia are mistakenly labelled as crap, and don't deserve the bad reputation that they invariably get. Perhaps that was so in the past, but I believe the standards and the quality control have improved, and I've seen the improvement over time. I agree that items like repro bumpers might be of a slightly thinner metal, but really, for most of us, with our daily drivers, does it make that much of a difference, unless we're carrying around micrometers? Remember above all, it's just a car.
This is just my opinion, so please don't crawl up my backside.
