Rubber bumper MG in the showroom shots so second half of the 70s apparently. So Leyland quality wasn't worth anything then. I'd guess it was a way to tell everyone up and down the line that screwing up can be deadly, so do you job right. But I'd also guess as above that it probably wasn't very effective.
