TR2/3/3A Water pump color

Packing started leaking on my water pump. I had painted the original red. Can anyone tell me what the correct color is?
Thanks, Bob

Mine is black. Sheen is a big harder to say after more than 50 years so I can only guess at that. My guess would be a semi-gloss that is somewhat glossier than modern 'satin' finishes.

Okay, a look in the TRA Judging guide finds this:

Water Pump and Pulley and Fan Belt. No changes (ref: SPCEd4, pg. 9). The water pump, body, and pulley
may be left unpainted or painted black. A grease nipple should be installed on the upper RH of the pump.

Thanks for the info. I looked at several photos on the net and concluded black. No hole for grease nipple on the new one, although the casting retains the boss for it.

...No hole for grease nipple on the new one, although the casting retains the boss for it...

The replacement pump on my TR3A did not have a Zerk so I cut the threaded end off of one, flattened the end on the grinder and JBWelded that piece to the boss on the pump.

My apologies in advance to the future owner who tries to grease the pump with that Zerk.
