The Sprite Emblem on the back of my Bugeye is silver with red lettering. I have also seen Gold with red lettering.
Which one is the original or are they both correct.
What is on your Bugeye?

Bill,
Gold is original and the chrome ones are aftermarket.

Oh Oh Oh...... on the Spridgets listserv (autox.team.net) this discussion is second only to what is the true "Old English White"... Half the people who bought their cars new said "Gold".. and half said "Silver".. or thereabouts... . The old english white discussion got down to matching the paint behind the tail light, because it had never seen the sun to get faded... .. I can hardly wait (not) to see what comes of it here.

There are 3 pictures in Terry Horlers Original Sprite & Midget and they all appear to be gold and there's no mention of a change to silver in any of the change by date section.

Mine is silver and I think it is going to stay that way because crawling back inside the boot to take it off and replace it with a gold one is just to much of a hassel for me unlessIcan hire one of the small kids next door to crawl back there for me. I do like the fact that the silver one is chrome and sort of matches the other pieces back there such as the bumperettes and the licens plate holder light.

My totally original 1960, that I purchased in the 60's was gold. When I bought a replacement emblem from the dealership parts department in the late 60's, it was also gold w/red.

As they say on the ol' interweb tubes... OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I buy one?

Mark - care to add your list of '(with usual upgrades)' to the 'thoughtful upgrades' thread? Thanks!

:wink-new:

I just had a look at the emblem on the Sprite we bought back in 1971, and it's the same one and it's golden.
And regards the original query having lost meaning? I like to think that it's been like a good old dog: headed off, looking for something, found it, did a bit of exploring and wandering, and successfully came back again with what it went looking for.
