You missed my point. The pilot flying the glider might attempt a record, but the glider is an object and thus incapable of "attempting" anything.

Probably just sloppy reporting. The Blackbird doesn't even make the list.They mention in the article that the current fixed wing record is held be the SR-71 at 85,000 and some odd feet. Wouldn't the X-15 be considered a fixed wing aircraft? Or even the NF-104?
