A friend and me found an unexploded WWII bomb in the Nahe River (Germany) back in 68. It was very close to a small US Army air field. It was mostly buried and laying on it's side. We had been wading the river looking for war artifacts.

We were in Belgium 2 years ago, and farmers turn them up nearly everyday (from WWI). They put them in piles and someone comes to collect them. Would have loved to take one home, but it might have been a problem in the plane.

Since the vast majority of bombs dropped during the war exploded on impact, think about what the fact that they still find unexploded ones all the time says about the sheer number of them dropped.
