If you haven't seek "Ike" starring Tom Selleck, I highly recommend it.

Saw it and Tom, acting as Eisenhower, in my estimation, was a good pick to present him. Good movie for all to see! :encouragement: PJ

I remember when I first heard Selleck was doing that movie I couldn't picture it, but then when I saw it I changed my mind. Very convincing performance.

I remember the earlier biopic with Robert Duvall as Ike. I thought that worked well, too.

Thanks. I'd forgotten about that one. The 1978 TV movie "Ike: The War Years".

Newton's 2011 book "Eisenhower" (among other references) reminds me of how well Ike served as a "long view" administrator, dealing with major foreign affairs crises in every year of his presidency. Sure parallels his ability to hold things together for the Crusade in Europe.

We could sure use someone like that today. So many people I know have the impression of Ike as a do-nothing who only played golf. His 30+ years knowledge of how the military worked, coupled with his understanding of the relation of industry and our congressional system, is so well summed up in his "Farewell" address of January 17, 1961.

Tom, getting back to the focus of the thread, if you have a chance to pick up Ike with Tom Selleck in the lead role, I highly recommend it. It is not a biopic, it focuses on his time as Supreme Allied Commander and specifically D-Day.

Basil - I've heard about the Selleck film. But the only one I can find at Netflix is the TV movie "Ike: Countdown to D-Day".

Is that the one?

For some reason I'd been thinking there was a Selleck film on Ike's life - childhood, army, WW2, and presidency.

Thanks.

Yes, that's the one.
