With such an original looking engine compartment, golden beige, does the Dennis Welch modern looking air filter perform that much better than the originals that it is wort that compromise?

Best thing about a modern filter is that it stops an engine ingesting more than 1/2 bricks and dead birds . Keep the pancakes for shows and protect the expensive bits I say . Andy

(I'm assuming you are referring to photos I posted of my "golden beige Healey), Yes, does the original air filters really do a good job of making sure filtered air gets inside the engine? Probably not.

I don't know if I get an extra 6hp from the filter because I'm not going to dyno it. Since overhaul, my Healey has a nice noticeable increase in power. Balanced the engine, bored 60 over, "restored"(not rebuilt) the carbs, Advance Dist. went through the Distributor with mod to improve performance, Pertronix ignition, top loader Dist. Cap.

The last time I overhauled my engine it cost around $1k. This time it was over $3.6k and I disassembled and reassembled it myself. The same reason I installed the Welch Air-Filter is the same reason I installed the aftermarket Oil-Filter to replace the original one.
