Wiper posts

I have my dash all apart and figured it was a good time to try and tighten down the wiper posts. I took the plate under the dash which gives you a look at the rods that move the wipers. There is nothing I can see that would tighten the posts from under the dash. The post nuts are tight and I can't see how they can be tighten anymore.. Any suggestions would be welcomed..

The wipers are tightened by the big chrome nut that is visible from the outside.
Now would be a good time though to inspect the wheel boxes for cog wear. If they appear to be worn, separate the cable from the wheel box, spin the gear 180 degrees to the unworn cogs. Apply a little grease and reinstall.

Thanks Doug...I am guessing that you are suggesting to wing off the nut which give me a look at the wheelbox.. ? I can't see how you can possibly get at it under the dash, no room to work at all...help...

You have to remove the metal "access doors" on the fire wall that expose the wheel boxes. You then remove the two nuts holding the backing plate of the wheelbox. The gears are then exposed for inspection.
To spin the gear to expose better teeth, you just pull the cable away from the teeth. It doesn't matter what part of the gear you use, since the cable determines the movement of the wipers.

If I understand your problem correctly, I believe I had the same problem with my wiper posts. I had tightened the chrome nut as far as I could, and I still could not get the wiper posts to tighten. The problem ended up that the angled plastic piece that fits over the post (inside the access area already mentioned) was broken on both sides. I replaced these parts and both posts tightened down nicely.

If it's like the TR4 then yes, those plastic or hard rubber bases will crack with age or over-enthusiastic tightening. I recall there is a weak point where they are pretty thin stuff. I had one break and chose to repair it with JBWeld because 1) didn't know if the repro would match my good one and 2) I can be cheap.

I do not think mine had a gasket under the base but I made a pair out of old inner tube. Not really noticeable but allows some 'give' to help everthing stay tight w/o cranking down that nut to the point of breaking.

Thanks for the inner tube suggestion.. That is what I am going to try as my dash in now back together and the access is too difficult to get at..
