Well... I was out doing some 4-wheelin' in my 1972 Volvo 164e (great non-Jaguar) last weekend.
Gotta do it just to get up my driveway in 8 inches of snow. Had it chained up of course, but I hit a rock and sorta knocked my muffler off.
Upon brief inspection, I quickly realized the there are supposed to be 3 different hanging points for the exhaust system on that car, and all three were hangers were gone. So...I figures I needed a metal strap to support the middle hang point. What to use...what to use.
Well, as luck would have it, I found the worthless used headgasket from my XK120. Wrapped it around the resonator on my exhaust and back to the hanger point, and found some barbed wire to hold the backmost end off the ground.
The fix got me the rest of the way up the driveway, and then another 30 miles back into town on rough dirt roads.... and I probably won't get to the shop for a week or two. Seems to be holding fine.
Never throw potentially good Jaguar parts away. You might need 'em someday. And if not... let your kids sort 'em out when you and your car are gone!
