Well, I might get two cool events under my belt this first year with my car:
1. Wednesday, we are caravanning to Fayetteville, AR, to meet John Macartney, and escort him to Dallas (via Oklahoma), where he will spend a few days R and R. (He is the Brit driving 10,000 miles of USA and Canada in a Triumph Stag, to raise funds and increase awareness of PTSD (Post Trauma Stress Disorder). Then, Monday we will escort him to Amarillo (via the Cadillac Ranch) and beyond (still undecided how far I will go) on his drive to Denver.
2. In October, they are running the "second annual" Arizona Roadrunner drive. The first day of the event goes from Tucson north thru the desert mountains to Holbrook for the night. The next day, it heads south over the Devil's Highway (US-666). However, I am a Route 66 buff, and Holbrook is on Route 66, so I will leave the group there, and proceed to finish the eastern portion of Arizona Route 66, then do ALL of New Mexico and Texas Route 66, then head south - and home - from Shamrock.
Jeez, if I could get these two trips under my belt this year, I would be ecstatic.
Oh, the Roadrunner event is open to ALL BRITISH CARS FROM 1980 AND OLDER, so there should be some nice MGs, Healeys, Jags, Sunbeams, Morgans, etc, etc. Maybe a Rolls Royce and a Metropolitan (NOT a Nash, as we always called them!).
I hope to meet some of you folks this - and next - year.
