Wedge TR8 Header Install

A set of Woody Cooper headers should be here sometime this week.

Mine does have the O2 bungs installed and will hook them back up to the FI ECU....

Seeing as the existing headers have never been off the car since new, I am expecting some "issues." Is there a preferred way to remove the existing ones?

Any guidance on this installation process?

What have you guys used down stream for exhaust cans?

Any advice, experience or guidance is most appreciated.

Thanks!

Randy, my stock ones came right off. But, I bet I was one of the few lucky ones.
The headers and connecting pieces that Woody sells are "SUPPOSE" to hook up the the stock system. As with all the exhaust work on all my cars it never works.
I hope you have better luck than me.
Were did Woody put the bungs?

If you recall I ended up with this .Actually a good idea as it isolates the motor vibration from the exhaust. ( Bill turned me on to em)

Then I had this welded on later

Not sure where the O2 sensors are located. Down at the final collector I believe.

What is the make & PN of the flex pipes?

My plan was to install the headers and drive (loudly) to the exhaust shop and have them assemble something for me. I could easily have them install those if you think they help.

Did you put in the cross tube?

Get em at your local Parts store. In fact, they had one on the shelf I just got 2 for the 6.
They are called Flex pipes.
The ones at the local store were the same size both sides so I took them to my exhaust shop that I use and had them expand one end to slip the header into.

Mine has one already, figured they came that way

I take it you are going to use 3 wire O2's. Think we had this conversation before.

Spray lube the bolts and the ones on the manifold/header to the block and the lower bolts on the manifold to the down pipe. When you go to install the passenger side header losen both engine mounts at the subframe and then start to jack the motor up and pull the passenger side bolts so you raise the engine up enough to clear the battery tray. If you do not then you have to cut a chunk off or hammer the battery tray to get the header in.

Randy, everybody warned me about jacking up the motor. I have no idea why. There is so much room in mine. I can slide the headers in and out with the motor connected.

Maybe mine came out because of the taller submount bushings. Don't know if that has an effect

What the book says is what I did. I'm sure Todd 'l OK that or suggest different. What O2's did you get?

About as tight as you can comfortably snug them with a wrench. Resnug at every oil change or the gaskets will blow out because the bolts will back out. Make sure to check the fitment of the gaskets against the head and the headers. Seen many that are a bad match. Most need some massaging so that they don't cover up part of the hole. I've gone to making my own out of Mr. Gasket header material. Time consuming, but at least I know I'm seeing the full effectiveness of the headers. Good luck. They make the engine bay so much cleaner and easier to work on.

Thanks Todd. Perhaps I'll pick a number on the wrench and do them all the same.

I am seriously considering cutting these gaskets apart so I have one gasket for each hole. That way I can line each one up individually.

Once I get started I will take pictures of the process....skinned knuckles & all

Actually I would do a heated in your instance. There is a chance it will pop in and out of cold loop.
Get this one. Being a universal fit you don't have to cut the end off and the wires are a lot longer.

Sounds like a good job for a dremel tool
What do you use Todd?
