Wedge TR8 Hazard Flasher

I have had no working hazards since I've owned the car. Time to finally deal with it. I struggle on my back down under the passenger footwell to put my head near the floorboard under the glove box and look up as instructed in my manual, but can find neither a flasher canister nor a connector with a purple lead and a light green/pink lead. I can find a strange looking empty multi connector of some kind that appears to contain the two leads with about four other wires. Is this multi connector missing another part which contains the hazard connector? If I don't fix this, SWMBO will soon tire of continually switching our red lensed flashlight on and off when we stall on the roadside while I try to figure out what's wrong.

Thought the flasher was on the panel in the glove box

Never mind ...you're correct

I believe I read other posts in the past where the switch was the problem and is serviceable. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find something. I'll be watching too because my TR7 has the same issue but never checked into it. However if your stalling out that much you may want to resolve that issue first.

Randy, are you going to the Fox Brits spring cleanup and cookout on May 11?

The good news: I found the flasher. It was under the tranny housing carpeting in the footwell. The bad news: The flasher is not the problem. I replaced it with a new one from Woody and still no hazards. I will now pull the hazard switch and check whether it is receiving power and if so, whether it is sending power out in the on position. Are new switches available?

Hummm Don't think it is supposed to be under the carpet in the foot well. Should be attached to the fuse panel in the glove box. I just turned mine on to double check.

Mine is also hanging down it that area, I could see how it could be tucked under the carpet. At least there is a little box that looks like the unit.

Randy, is it in a place that you could get a picture of it?

Randy, the purple and lt. green/pink leads and the flasher unit indicate this is indeed the hazard flasher. You've seen the car at the Fox Brits clubhouse and events: Poseidon green w/painted bumpers and tan top.

Randy- According to the ROM it's behind the cubby, not in it

I released the switch panel containing the hazard switch from the dash. I pushed the connectors at the back of the switch in an attempt to release them and free the panel from the dash; in so doing, the switch turned on and the flasher started flashing. I worked the connectors back and forth a bit and the flasher repeatedly operated correctly. I didn't have time to figure out how to free the switch connections in order to remove the panel to properly clean the connectors as well as the switch itself, but I do have operational hazards for the time being. I will attempt to remove all three switches from the panel in the future and clean connectors and contacts later. For now I have operational hazards and have found the source of the problem.

Haha. Great! Don't touch anything!!!!

I figured it was in the switch.

To release the wires, you need to push in the connector tabs and pull the connector out.

For the record, the flasher relay is not attached to the fuse box in the glove box. I thought it was. Mine is hanging behind the fuse box but I am unable to fully see up there on how it is mounted. However, it is not tucked behind the carpet in the footwell.

Glad you got it semi sorted
