Wedge TR7 Engine Woes

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif well, upon tearing down the TR7 this weekend I discovered multiple cracks in the #4 cylender wall, I think this would explain the coolant coming out the overflow when it ran this past summer. So heres the question, I know the engine can be sleeved, however I'm not wild about doing this as I really dont want to be in this same possition next season, Rimmer Bros. offers short blocks either with US compression or 9.25:1. Both spendy options, however, I plan to keep the car and dont really want a V8 or a non Triumph powertrain. Any suggestions, any opinions?

Hey Rich, Ive looked around a little, TRF doesnt offer anything, VB only offers a bare block, and Moss offers nothing. I will PM you however, I'm open to any suggestions.

Honestly, I would just scan the local papers for a rusty TR7 with a good low mileage engine. My guess is that you can find a good mechanical/bad body car for $1000 or less, and then you just ebay the other parts you don't need to recoup cost. With the quality of the repro parts, I think you'll be just as good.

If you lived close to Little Rock I have a block you could have. I am going to pull it out and put in a 1980 Buick 3.8 and forget about heating problems. I think that is what you should do if you want a real dependable driver. I am fixing this up for my daughter (16) and I want her to have something that is dependable.

I have a short block available, just pulled it last week. When I bought the car, I was told it had spun a bearing. I cranked it over once, but never started it so I don't know. When I drained the oil, it looked ok, no coolant or excessive metal. I haven't pulled the pan yet. Email me if you are interested.

Hey john, thanks for the suggestion, I sent them an Email a couple of days ago asking for a freight quote. They replied quite promptly with a quote for $858.00 USD for just the freight. That'll pucker a guy right up.
