TR4/4A tr4a instrument knob removal?

Hi all, can someone tell me how to remove and reinstall the instrument knobs? thanks!

There's a small recessed "button" on the underside of the knob. In an ideal world, you'd simply use a small drift, nail or similar to depress that button while you pull on the knob, which should then come off. Sometimes, though, after all these years they get a bit stubborn. But if you can feel that "button" move upward when you push on it, your success odds go up dramatically.

thanx andrew. I see the small hole, am I suppose to put that tiny thing back in on reinstallation? for example my choke knob was missing when I got the car so I can see its not a part of the shaft, is it a small spring? (GOD I HOPE NOT!)

I can't find a good picture, but that little "button" is attached to a piece of spring metal, so it won't fall out. Once the knob is off, it will be obvious how it all works!

One exception is the windscreen washer knob, that is threaded on.

Sounds like your choke cable is missing the knob retainer.

Maybe a better way to phrase it : "It's not supposed to fall out". I've seen a lot of them that do ...

It's kind of fun, actually, at least compared to what I _should_ be doing. I've been doing some repair work on the garage, which means moving all sorts of parts around; and that choke cable kind of jumped out at me.

If the spring has broken and it and the pin are gone a # 8 screw will act as a set screw.
