TR2/3/3A TR3A Routing Fuel Line: Fuel Pump to Carbs

I know the fuel line goes straight up from the fuel pump then bends 90 degrees, but how does it get around the water heater piping? Does it go between the pipe and the block or does it bend around the outside of the pipe?
Thanks,
John

The fuel pipe bends around and under the front of the thermostat housing. My 1958 TR3A is an early car with banjo fittings to the carbs from this point near the housing shown. Later TR3As after about TS43000 have rubber slide-on fuel hoses to the heads of the float bowls. If you have rubber hoses to the carbs, secure the rubber hoses to the fittings with tiny clips used for fuel injection hoses and pipes on modern cars. These later TR3As and TR3Bs may also have a different attachment device under the nut on the front of the thermostat housing.

I believe the heater line should be between the fuel line and the block. This shot from Practical Hints isn't totally clear, but I believe that is what it shows, and that is what I've found on a majority of cars.

Thanks everybody. Helpful pictures. However I route it I will need to practice my tube bending - that first bent out of the fuel pump looks tight.

I routed mine in front of the thermostat housing like the
various illustrations indicated but had problems with vapor lock.
After a short stop on a So. California hot day it refused to
start unless I temporarily disconnected the fuel line. After
some experimenting I rerouted the fuel line as shown & my
vapor lock went away. Not correct but in my case practical.

Johnny,

I got my new line from Moss. I have benders, but did not need them because the metal was so soft. If you look at the pic, it took some pretty tight bends without a hint of caving. In fact, the metal is so soft I ruined it by overtightening the pump fitting...had to get a second line!

Also, glad you started this thread...I'm gonna move mine back outside the heater line...

Mine, more or less following the book though perhaps I should have the rise from the pump more vertical.

And a detail of the cap tube attachment. I used friction tape (hockey stick tape in the NE) under those aluminum strap thingies:

Wow, nice pictures everybody!
John: I'm thinking about using that softer tubing as well. I used it at the fuel tank end with good results. The one I got from Moss came with the correct shaped ferule.

So Don I know you have an original car and that is the way the early Banjo fitting cars hung the fuel line? They used a clip around the fuel line and hung that from the thermostat housing bolt and did not use the rubber two line grommet thingy with the hanger?

I don't believe the rubber grommet thing came in until long after the banjo line was gone. None of my TRs has had the rubber thing, but most have used push-on fittings to the carbs.

The rubber grommet (133083) and clip (133072) aren't even listed in the TR3 SPC.

Thanks Randall for your research, much appreciated. Years ago Barry N. told me that when he sold me some original fuel line for my banjo system and I did not believe him. The fuel line he sold me had that round brass eyelet hanger and I thought it was homemade or something. I deduced that from looking at the Moss catalogue and put the rubber thingy in, now I am going out to the barn and see if I can find it.
