Looked for over FOUR DECADES trying to find another TR3 with the the billet aluminum door trim pieces found on on my earlier car (...sold 1975). Never found another like that....so I made my own.

This is the finished product. People have asked if it's from the factory that way....

I love TR3's, can't afford them, and know very little about them. Those cars are stunning! I peruse this part of the forum for the pictures mostly. Anyway, I'll post the question:
Were these trim pieces something that was from the factory on very early cars, a rare factory option, or something offered by the dealers? They look nice, and I can see why you'd want them. I rode in a TR3 once, and that door was a perfect armrest for me, I was also able to pick up a quarter in the middle of an intersection.

Tom, I made these to represent door trim pieces found on my last TR3 (sold in 1975). When I pulled the old covers off the door caps of that car to redo the interior, I was surprised to find the billet pieces in place. I've tried to find anyone who has seen this on ANY other TR3 with no luck. Nobody has ever seen another example like it so it appears it was a one -off deal.

I now do NOT believe the factory ever did this...so my burning question is; WHY did that person spend days of labor shaping these pieces just to cover them up again? Of course, I polished them up and covered up just the middle section as with this car. I still wish I could find someone who has seen this effect!

PS: Aren't those doors cool? I sometimes have a '50mph manicure'....just because I can!
