Road Warrior or Garage Queen?

I probably put between 750 and 1200 miles a month on the '72 Midget between June and when the snow flies. After that it gets a little chilly for me. I drove a '63 year round from '94 until '99.

My '77 up until saturday morning has been driven everyday of the past 2.5 years... I've only put about 3500 miles on it though... work was only about 1 mile away at the time. It's got 88,734 miles on her now. Had about 83,500 when I bought her in non-running shape, and spent 2 months getting her going. Best car I've ever owned!

I am actually dying to get the 61 A out of storage this weekend so my wife can have a reliable car again....YES you heard right! I said reliable(The **** caddy is back in the shop)

Well, friday afternoon, I got the toyota finished (head gasket replacement), and running right. The MGB is completely overdue for a complete brake job (hoses, etc, the parts have been here for months) and front wheel bearing replacement (have those parts too), and a new carb, and several other jobs that have been needing done, or problems that have cropped up over the past few years while she's been my only reliable automobile. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

She needs the rest, and a little well deserved recouping at the moment.

How many other's can say that a car they bought for $700 has lasted them so long and been reliable and kept going even though all their other cars (including one bought for $7K a year ago) have died and in way's that took them off the road for 6 months or longer?

ah, thats good news(I haven't gotten down to ur toyota post yet)if you replaced that headgasket and got the yota running fixing up the B will be nothing.

When you get to the toyota post... pull up a chair, and crack a bevereage of choice... It's 9 pages long, and covers 2 months (actually 4-5 weekends) of concentrated work. And I'll gladly work on the MG over a modern fuel injected V-6 anyday!!!!!

I suppose my car is somewhere in between. I only drive it for pleasure, never to work, and often just go around the area and come home. I drive it to club meetings and auto-x events. Thats about it, really. Maybe 3000 miles a year plus the Gatlinburg trip this year, which I will drive it to. I'm thinking about a trip to ST. Louis this weekend and may drive it, but I may just take the train!

The B's I used to have were daily drivers year round, though. I just don't want to do that to this one. I'd rather find another one suitable for daily use and use that one.

I drove my MGA about 60 miles tonight. I haven't driven in in a few weeks for various reasons. I tell ya, it's mighty hard to get back in the BGT after driving an MGA. It's lightning fast compared to the GT and feels so good with the open cockpit. Now if it only had the legroom of an MGB.

I just finished a nut and bolt restoration on my '70 MGB. It's beautiful, if I do say so myself! But so far I've driven it everywhere! For me that's part of the fun. I don't thing your idea would work for MG owners.

I have a 58 Bugeye that I drive every chance I get (avoiding the wet weather thing). The old Bug has a great sterio and it rocks when cold. My wife said on the way to dinner one winter night that you have a different view of thwe world out of the ole Bugeye. So, last year when I thought I might "need" a supercharged motor, she actually agreed. Her comment was "Jim, no mater how bad your day is, when you get into the Bug, you have a smile on your face. The fixin, the figuring out how to fix, the forum, the driving, and as you are doing, the restoring are all pleasures we all enjoy. The lbcs are a gift from the past that you make your own with every decision you make in the restoration or during the ownership that simply buying and driving cannot give you. Oh yeah, did I tell you I enjoy the ol Bug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif.

I've put 3,000 miles on my Midget since I got it resurrected 3 years ago. I drive it whenver I can (not in winter, obviously), so it goes to the grocery store, Home Depot, Autozone, work, and to the local A&W drive in, where it usually gets lots of attention /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. It spent 18 years in somebody's garage without moving an inch, so I'm trying to make up for it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif.

Until I get some new paint and undercoating in the rust-prone areas I try to avoid the rain though. Fortunately it only spent one winter being driven through the road salt, but I'd like to keep the body rot from spreading too far.

erm... appointments for the mechanic... *smacks self on forhead* bleh. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif Called the LBC shop on San Fernando this AM since I got the clutch lastnight, and he's full til middle of next week or so. So, I called the shop right down the street from me, cause I've noticed the owner drives a Lotus Elan (new one) to work everyday. Apparently the guy down the street has taken notice of my B parked by the curb, and knew what car the call was for when I asked about them working on MGs. Unfortunately, I can't get into his shop til Tuesday.

Looks like no driving for me this weekend.
