polishing headlights

Well not so relevant to older cars but new cars with plastic headlight lenses can get very dull looking.
The headlights on my newish Nissan were almost whitish.

I picked up a Mequiars Restoration kit and in less than 1 hour I had both lenses looking like new.
Really impressed. I started by lightly cleaning with wet sandpaper (not part of the kit or instructions) then hand polished with the included pad and liquid polish. Once they were clean but "milky" I cleaned them thoroughly and sprayed them with the coating spray. They instantly turned shiny. I put 3 light coats on a few minutes apart. Of course the real test will be how it looks in a year or so....
Kit has more than enough material. I have enough left over to do another car ( or re-coat it in a year or so)

Nice! I just brought home a similar kit from Mothers, which includes the sanding discs. The '16 Expedition's headlights are so yellowed I can barely tell they're on. Hopefully I'll have similar results.

Mothers says that their polish incorporates a UV protectant, similar to what Mequiar's has you spray on. I'm sure there's no way it's better than the factory coating or we wouldn't have to do this periodically! But Mothers does say that if you keep up with it every couple of years, you should be able to skip the sanding step and just polish them back to life. 🤞

Hope yours turns out as nice! it will be very interesting to see what type of results you get. The Meguiar uses a spray which smooths out the surface and leaves a fairly thick coating. The Mothers seems to make you polish it to perfection. I wonder how much of a protective layer the rub on polish will leave. - Post results curious to see how your results compare.
