I was a at the ~New Hampshire Vintage~ a few weeks ago (racing the Spridget).

Also the ~Jefferson 500~ before that.

Here's some snaps of cars that qualify as "Other Brits" that I took at these events (more pictures in the links above).

Some are obvious but some may not be.

Do you know what they are?

OK top to bottom:

1.-#98 Elva
2. #114 Elva
3. All three cars (including the open wheel car) are Elvas
4. #78 Royale Sports Racer
5. #36 Ginetta (rear engine w/Imp motor)
6. #11 Elva (yes, that's a reinforced Sprite axle)
7. #3 Jabro (Sprite engine and running gear)
8.#5 Jabro
9. #66 Allard (Chrysler Hemi-powered with four Webers)
10. #38 Ginetta
11. #6? (red "Lee Talbot" car) Ginetta (front engined)

Next Group

12. #64 Turner (A-series powered)
13. #? (white "For Sale" car) Rotary-powered Mallock
14. #36 Ginetta
15. #378 Peerless GT (TR4 powered)
16. #425 Turner (A-series powered)
17. #44 (red car) Turner (Ford Kent powered)
18. (engine picture of blue car) Coventry Climax "firepump" engine in Lotus 11
19. #25 Aston Martin DB 4 or 5 or 6 (I'm not sure)
20 two Allards (one red and one green). The red on is "real". The green one is a very nice recreation from the Roger Allard Company in Canada (Roger is not related to Sydney but he told me that since they had the same last name, "What the heck!").

That Royale RP-4 looks like one just recently sold on race-cars.com.

Neat, Nial. That triggered a lot of memories. I love the Ginettas. Wish they'd have imported more of 'em.

I love the way true sport racers look. They're pure Speed Racer.

The only one I've ever driven was a rental Sports Renault. It made my Spridget seem like dump truck.

Earlier this year, the Royale Company (now based in the US) was put up for sale and three of my friends bought it. One of the new owners is a former engineering student of mine. Excellent fellow.

Really like the front-engine Ginettas.

Those pictures sure make you realize that the kind of racing most of us are doing is far below the level of these guys. I wonder how much effort goes to supporting a car like those.

True, there are some big-money players out there with tractor trailers and full time mechanics.

But there's also guys like me right in the midst of them having just as much fun with a $2500 car (excluding "sweat equity").

I ran ten weekends last year for roughly $6000 total (including gas, hotels, food, race tires, entry fees, etc). I'm pretty sure my next-door neighbor spends that much on cigarettes each year.

I have a friend who just had a new exhaust system put on his Porsche 996. He spent more on that exhaust than my yearly race budget!

Jabro.

Another car I've never heard of, could never fit in, and (thanks) now covet.

Only found one page on a google search - anyone have some links for more info? Geez, could it really have been designed by a bloody yank?

I don't have a lot of info either, but you can see they are basically Spridget/Austin A35 based but with a tube frame and fiberglass body (sort of like a Turner).

Here's a few more pictures I have of these cars at various places. I expect to see them at the PVGP fairly soon.

Jabros started out as members of the popular H-Mod class that the SCCA used to have. H-Mod was mostly home-built "specials" or kit cars with less than 750 cc. Not sure what engines the first Jabros ran but I think these two have 948s.

I don't know the owners of these two cars that well but they are Rick Presbry (I'm pretty sure he told me he has a house in Nantucket) and Paul Wilson (from Fairfield. VA)
(if that helps with searching for more info).

I remember Jabros as being largely kit cars. The earliest were pretty much Crosley based with frames made from tubing intended for antenna masts. The later chassis were built of small diameter tubes and looked like a baby Birdcage Maserati. Some late cars were rear-engined. I still have a brochure on them somewhere.

At one time they even offered a Crosley engine modified to use a cross-flow head. (Quite a trick for an engine with an integral head.)

Google "zink petite" for info on a very interesting special that used a Jabro Mk 3 body.

Wow! I like that Ginetta G12!! One can certainly see styling cues picked up by Lotus in the Elise/Exige cars!!!
