Old ads and misc ramblings

I was going through some of my boxes of old car magazines and found this, which I thought might be of intrest to BE owners.

It's one of the first ads and reviews for the BE, being from a July 1958 Road & Track magazine.

They wouldn't get away with that statement today "an entirely new sports car" All the running gear is cobbled together from various other Austin bits.

Interesting read. A series of technical specs put into paragraph form. "The transmission is a 4-speed unit with syncromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th", this is 1958 so you can't just say "no syncromesh in 1st" and leave it at that. -or- "The hood... ... is hinged at the rear for maximum accessibility of engine, radiator and front end assembly when opened." I am not planing to make mine tilt forward, but this was clearly written by someone in the marketing department who has not spent any time on their knees working under a Bugeye bonnet.
