New midget good news and bad news

I spent the day cleaning and inspecting it and going through the wiring. I decided to get her running and so, ITS ALIVE! Good news is that the motor seems to run great, I thought it had no clutch but I was wrong it actually has a full pedal. Now for the bad news. I can't get it to go in reverse. I put some brake fluid in the master and managed to get a hint of brakes so I decided to run it up and down my drive. I have never had a 1500 before. Where is reverse supposed to be? I tried all the usual places and I only have the 4 forward gears.
Pictures.
The good side of the car. Its in real good shape just needs some decent paint.

The engine bay. The engine looks and sounds good and everything is there, only some slight surface rust a few places
MVC-532F.jpg

Drivers side floor pan, no holes but the seat holes, just some surface rust (still junk and dirt in there right now)
MVC-533F.jpg

Trunk, good shape no rust that I can see(better than my 71 was)
MVC-534F.jpg

Passenger floor pan much like the driver side
MVC-535F.jpg

driver lower hinge, looks good in there.
MVC-536F.jpg

passenger lower hinge, only light rust (still solid)
MVC-537F.jpg

Underside looks better than I had hoped
MVC-538F.jpg

The bad part that needs to be fixed (car came with a new sill for this to be welded in)
MVC-539F.jpg

Unbelievable the previous owner used plastic tubing for the clutch line
MVC-540F.jpg

This line actually works and has a good pedal but look where they ran it??????????????? Down through a rusted hole in the battery box

Another shot of the engine (not too shabby)

A poor picture but the dash is in real good shape in this car.

I don't have a 1500 but I think that the plastic tube running thru a rusted hole is stock!

You know, Bill, I have to cut out that old battery box and weld in some new metal, I just can't believe that poly flow or whatever kind of tubing that is worked for the clutch.

The 1500 will have the "single rail" Triumph box. Push the lever across neutral towards the passenger door, LIFT the lever and push it forward towards the dash (parallel to 3rd).

Seriously!

Yup. And reverse is up and to the right - but you have to lift the shifter. It's an acquired skill.

Wow, I have been lazy and am just now up and having "breakies". That is two here saying lift over and up to the right. I will try that in a few minutes. So, you basically lift up on the shift knob and it should then go into reverse in basically the same place that 5th is in most 5 speeds. I hope that works, I am already tired of pushing that thing backwards.

He probably got it to work and now can't get it out of reverse. Either that or he went out to go driving and didn't want to come back.
