Midget Rollbar?

Hello all, I wanted to post a picture with this question but am to computer ignert to do it. I was able to get it in the gallery but could not figure out how to get it posted with this question, anyhow if you look on the gallery and see the rollbar picture can anyone tell me if its for an MG Midget or what, I got it with a parts car I bought thanks.

It doesn't look like any Midget bar I've ever seen. I don't know if was made up specailly for the owner or if it's for another LBC and just used in the Midget. Most roll bars for Midgets extend down to the sills on the sides just inside the rear door edge and tie into the floor and sills at that point for strength. The downside is that they usually intrude slightly on the seat back so reduce seating room for taller drivers. Where that bar is mounted there's really not much supporting stucture, I wouldn't trust it if you got upside down.

I had one like that about 40 years ago. The smaller size allowed Spridgets with folding tops (like my old '67) to drop the top with plenty of clearance for the roll bar.

I will say that I did not really care for the way it looked and gave it away, replacing with a full-width roll bar that was floor-mounted, as Bill explained.

But one point I should make: Modern Spridget racers often mount the "halo bar" on the shelf (like the one you have) rather than all the way to the floor. The shelf behind Spridget seats has a reasonable amount of strength. I see SCCA and vintage racers with this setup all the time. But the bars are much wider, and tie into the area just in front of the rear inner fender. And these race cars generally have full roll cages, so it is a somewhat different arrangment than a single hoop.

Thanks guys, I was planning on selling it but was not sure if I could list it as a spridget part, I have not seen one like it before so that's good to know. I do not care much for roll bars but like I said it came with the parts car I bought and I was sure someone here could tell me what it went on thanks again.
