I fried my 15AC Alternator driving up to the Glen last Thursday. This adventure is chronicled elsewhere. This morning I swapped out the bad unit with a spare from a parts car and I now have plenty of amps (well maybe 28 amps which is not too much by todays standards).
I pulled apart the bad unit and found two broken wires (leads) connecting the diodes to the stator winding. I would not have guessed that this was a mechanical failure but it was. All six bridge diodes and all three blocking diodes checked out to spec. When I have a chance I'll repair this bridge assembly and then I'll have a spare for the spare.
