TR2/3/3A Leftover part from TR3A Engine Rebuild

I know the photo didn't come out well. I can't seem to figure out where this little guy came from.

It looks like a rod pin bushing. It appears to be unused. When I was dismantling the engine, I placed everything into an empty box, and as I was putting it back together, I found this in the bottom of the box. I can't find anything like it in the Moss catalog.

It almost looks like a larger version of the bushing used on the suspension's lower control arms, but is larger, perhaps 1 inch in diameter, as opposed to the suspension's 0.625.

I'm pretty sure it's not a rod pin bushing from the TR3A, since it doesn't fit inside the old pistons. It's possible that it came from my machine shop; perhaps dropped into one of the boxes containing engine bearings or the like, and I transfered it at some point to the large box containing all the engine parts.

Does anyone recognise this piece? I'm not too worried about it, since I didn't see anyplace it could possibly go during reassembly... it just keeps annoying me that I don't know where it came from.

There are bushings like this in the bell housing and which support the cross shaft for the clutch. I can't remember the diameters.

Interesting... We didn't disassemble that section of the car, though. And according to Moss, the ones they provide are 7/8 inch long, which is about 3/8th shorter than this bushing.

I'll take a few official measurements tonight, but 1 x 1.25 is about right.

At first, I thought it might go inside the crank shaft. At the rear of the crank there's a big bushing that the transmission shaft slides into, but its much thicker than this.

The thing is, it has grooves on the inside, as though it goes to something that gets greased on oiled.

It's slightly disconcerting finding a piece you're pretty sure you didn't remove and haven't seen before at the bottom of a box of parts you're mostly unfamiliar with.

Just a WAG, but it looks kinda like the bushing for the rocker shaft in the steering unit.

I was going to guess rocker bushing, but I think they are the same diameter as the lower suspension so what you have is too big. Does look a lot like that suspension part, though.

Why not go back and ask the shop where you had this work done. Maybe he has a furious customer who can't get his car because of this lost bushing and the new replacement for his car will only arrive in 6 weeks.

I've never seen one but how about the cam shaft bearing.

It kinda looks like a bearing for the cam shaft. I put new cam bearings in the TR3 engine I rebuilt. You gotta check that out.

Is it anything from the starter or generator?

If it were a camshaft bearing, wouldn't there be a locating hole on the side?

Definitely not a camshaft bearing. I have a full set of cam bearings already and this is much smaller than those (1 inch diam. vs ~2 inch diam.)

It still looks like a clutch cross shaft bushing to me.
