gearbox shifts very badly

Hi all
I've got my BT7 for 7 months now ,and have some issues
first: gearbox shift very bad (first gear is OK) but in all other gears I have to be very carefull (cluth twice) and push or pull hard
last time I drove it I had to call AAA ..was stuck in fourth gear
When I took out the gearlever I noticed the small bush in the gear lever socket (plastik or copper) wasn't there
Can this be the reason why it shifts so bad?
second: what can I do about vage steering. I can move the steering wheel (a bit) without goiing to any direction
what can I do on the steering box to adjust this

Yes it will help but there may be other issues fix that first and see.

The steering box contains an adjustment screw at the top which may remove the slop if internal wear of the pin is not excessive. In some cases rotating the pin 90 Degrees readjusting the play using the screw and shimming out vertical play of the shaft may cure your problem.

Clutch hydraulics need to be in good shape to fully disengage. Check that the clutch slave pushrod is moving fully.

The missing piece is definitely needed, and if it has been gone for a while, the shifter wears into the block that houses the bushing, allowing even more slop. Part of the bushing is often still in the socket, so clean it out well so the new bushing can fit. It must be put onto the shifter first, and then the unit gets installed. At least this is a good place to start.

Clutch pushrod is moving like normal (pushrod has not got any wear)
The gearlever socket can be found in plastick and copper (Denis Welch)
What is the best ?

All Healeys have some play in the steering, it is just the nature of the peg and worm system. When you say it is difficult to get 4th, 3rd and 2nd, do you mean that it makes a grinding/crunching noise when shifting or is it just very stiff? If its a grinding noise then the synchros need replacing (very common) if its very stiff then the problem could be with the selector shafts sticking. Either way it sounds like you need to have the gearbox out to see what its like inside.

To check if the clutch throwout bearing is working ok depress the clutch while driving in gear and coast along. If you hear a rubbing/grinding noise you have a problem there.

There's no grinding when shifting gear, even no grinding when depressing the clutch while driving.
It goes out of gear without a problem , but shift it (down or up) is hard.... (clutch twice )
I"m going to order the small bush that is used under the gearlever and start from there on
