Found a great tr for someone.

I found a great local tr that would make a great entry level driver for someone. I have no fni, I just have seen so many horrible rusty crap cars over the years, and this is just not one of those. Asking price is 4k, but the buyer is negotiable. Its got an older crappy paint job, that is not horrible to drive around with. The paint is not bubbling, interior is original faded, but drivable etc. Car can be made into a driver with little money. Has a great top, redlines(should be replaced with modern rubber) etc. Car is located in Hampton, va. I just wanted to post this in case someone is looking to get into the hobby that doesn't have a wad of cash to spend. Can be a rolling restoration for a few years, and a get starting point for a body off when they want too. I low balled him at 2500 to flip it and he said no;). I am willing to inspect it or help the buyer in any way!

If this is the wrong place to put this post, delete it!

You lowballed him without first looking at it?

My main concern would be the cheap paint job could hide a multitude of sins.

I saw the car, looked under it. I checked for bondo with a magnet and knocking. The paint job is probably about 10-15 years old and in my experience the rust would be bubbling out by this point. Floor pans even look to be serviceable. I have been around triumphs for a long time and can tell a bad/terrible cover up, from just a poor paint job. This car "looks" to be solid underneath the paint, but you have no clue what you are getting into.

I am show winner in tr6's and been through a few frame off restorations....You have to realize these cars were cheap in the 80's and a lot were done to low standards. Everyone wants a perfect rust free car, and for under 5k its not going to happen. This car is for someone who wants a hobby car with a little cash and wants to restore it later. I look at a bunch from 2-10k, and this is the most honest car I have seen in years. It even has Michelan redlines on it. I wouldn't drive this thing on these tires, but would be great for shows. Just an odd thing to show, its an older restoration, with car that has sat in a garage. Look under it, around, and in it. Most people probably won't disagree on here.
