Check out this exceptional Caterham!

This is the nicest Caterham I've seen - and it's a rocketship with it's turbocharged Mazda engine!

Skip Cannon's Caterham SV - https://www.britishv8.org/Other/SkipCannon.htm (43 detailed photos!)

Question: Can you think of a more perfect car for track-day use?

Love the autographed pedal-box, and the carbonfiber canards.

The Super-Stalker. Same idea but a lot cheaper.
Ariel Atom - the supercharged one.
Noble M400.
GT3.
Exige.

And a few others. I'd have any of them before a Caterham with a Miata mill in it. The R500 of course is a different story - except I'd add 25% to the kerb weight :frown:

Sorry guys, I still like the Caterham! 'bout the only thing I don't like about it is the color of the wheels, but they have nice "normal" wheels in the photospread via the link!! Those others are nice cars too (Especially the Exige), I just have a soft spot for them Caterhams (Even with a Mazda powerplant!).

Skip used to run those wheels on his screaming yellow Miata - that was an eye-popper!

One set of wheels/tires for the road, another set for track-day use.

No love for the Miata engine? What engine would you prefer? The Miata engine provides a whole lot of bang for the buck...

Speaking of which, did you check out the Westfield thread? I had the opportunity to ride in both these cars, back to back, at a Miata Club track day at Pueblo Motorsports Park. One subtle thing I like about the Cat from a passenger's perspective is that there's a steel tube across the bottom of the dashboard that you can grab to stabilize yourself. Both cars pull serious g's.

No doubt they're both fast. As for the preferred engine in a Caterham 7, I go for one more "traditional". Lotus 1600 T/C would be the First Choice. A Kent with a cross-flow head second.

Hey, I'm old and inured in Anglo car tradition. If someone wants to stuff a Japanese engine in their Seven and strap a hair dryer to it, their business. :jester:
