BN1 Exhaust mounting

Just in the process of fitting a new exhaust to my restored inner bodyshell. I have mounting points on the body on the rear crossmember and at the back behind the rear axle. Looking at the workshop manual it gives the impression that the forward mounting rubber is attached straight through the floor. Is this correct? Has anyone got any photos?

Cheers

Steve, I hesitated to respond since my car is a BT7 but since no one else has.... Assuming the mounting points are the same as on the later roadsters, there is a mount for the front of the muffler. There are two studs that are flat-head 1/4-28 protruding though the floor. They are welded on the top side of the floor to hold them in place. The rubber mount is the same as the other two, just bolted up on those studs so that the tab for attaching ends up vertical. There should be a small bracket on the front of the muffler with a captive nut. A bolt then goes through the tab and into the nut.

Hope that helps.

Steve,

I have a 2-seater (BN6), and the forward mounting bracket is attached to my original floor as shown in the first two images.

The below pic is the original floor in my BN2. I took measurements of the hole locations using a square from underneath the floor.
From the backside of the front outrigger to hole center is 4 inches. From the inner edge of the sill to the outer hole center is 3.25". From sill to inner hole center looks like 5.125".That would make the center-to-center of the holes 1.875". Unfortunately, I don't have a spare mount to measure for confirmation of that number.

For what it's worth, I have gone through several different exhaust systems over 40+ years. I have never used the front mount.

I was thinking of leaving it off anyway. I've fitted a rigid 100M type exhaust without the semi flexible bit on the downpipe. I was worried that the forward mount may hold things too tight and it would either pull out the rubber or pull through the floor under stress. Strikes me that just bolting it through the floor doesn't make for a strong attachment point.

Anyway all, thanks for the responses. I have my answer now I just need to decide what to do!
