MGB-GT BGT & rear seatbelts...

Before I commit to buying anything, I've found a nice, solid, reliable BGT (72) that I can seriously consider as a year round DD.
One condition for the purchase would be the installation of rear seat belts and a loop for a toddler seat.
From what I've seen there are none and no real good point to install them.
Has anyone else bolted/welded any plates aft of the window where a rear seatbelt can be fitted? Will it be more drama that what it's worth? Thanks.

My 73 has two female seatbelt ends at the ends still. I have not taken the time to where the males might go. My brother's 67 has one long lap belt as original apparantly.

I'd like to see the pics of the 67 as I can't seem to find evidence of any on mine.

My '67 GT has no rear belts & no evidence of any....they must've been installed by a dealer or previous owner because neither the factory nor US distributor installed them.

Mark I MGBs never had belts from the factory. They were always dealer or owner installed. Rear belts are a very rare thing since no one can actually sit back there in a position where a belt would fit.

Attach the belts to sturdy metalwork with fender washers or pressure plates underneath to distribute the load. Use Grade 8 or higher hardware.

That was my assumption, I will overbuild this. Fortunately, this thing has a new floor pan and no carpet or seats, so that need came about quickly, it would have to be a 3-point on the left side.
Thanks all, this is a job for a pro, too much at risk for my level.
Turns out to be a 10/69 too, not a 72 as described!

Look at going over the back of the seat & fastening it somewhere on the rear frame rail.

Come on Baz, you can do it, easy job.

I think a toddler could sit in the rear, but not with the toddler seat. Not enough clearance between the rear cushion and the roof! (ask me how I know!)

Maybe if you took the rear cushion out and set the seat directly on the battery cover.

That's a good point Bill, I hadn't even considered that. She's 2 1/2 so she'll be in a seat of some kind for a while.

Thwarted again.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Maybe you could convince your wife that the entire GT is a baby seat....hehehehe

I used that one on the Midget Tony!
What I've figured out, is to use a 4-point. 2 lap belts cruciate with one another to bolt 2x under the cushion, and 2x behind the seat.
She (baby) will not need the full booster attachment when she's 3yo, so I might just get away with this..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

However, it's proving more drama than it's worth, and the BGT will wait..
