Austin A40 trafficator steering wheel

Hello everyone. New here and hoping to find some information. I am working on building a 1948 Austin A40 Dorset and am in the process of refurbishing the steering column/wheel and I am running into what I think is an issue.
I am trying to find out how the horn button and trafficator setup on the steering wheel stay in. The tube that contains the electrical slides down the steering column and everything up at the steering wheel fits as it should but it seems like it would easily slide in and out. Is there a clip of some sort that I am missing that holds everything in place?
I am sure I am not giving all the necessary information but I am new to this and still unsure as to what information is needed to pass along. Any help would be appreciated

Not sure about your Austin but it sounds the same as my Prefect. The Manette tube should extend out the other end of the steering box about 3/8 inch or so. There is a clip that clamps to it and also has a flat strap that bolts to the end of the box. There should be an indexing bit that keeps it in proper alignment.

Bayless, thank you for that. I knew it went out the end of the steering gearbox but when I got the column it wasn't all together...hence why I missed the clamp at the end. I suppose you also answered another question that I would have eventually ran into.
That question being...if the tube just slides down the inside, how does the clocking mechanism work if the whole unit turns.
Sounds like with the strap, the wire tube/horn button stays oriented straight up and down and the steering wheel is the only part of that that rotates....is that correct?

Right. The clamp has an indexing tab that fits into a notch on the tube to hold it so it doesn't turn. This is based on memory since my manette is in my attic and the car is at the shop but I'm pretty confident anyway.
