A major milestone

Good day all,

Only to a fellow restoration enthusiast will this statement have any meaning....

'I actually cranked the engine over. Fuel system isn't in, electrical isn't finished so there was no intention to start it BUT it cranked away just the same."

The car: my 1957 MGA frame off
The date: Yesterday
Expected date of completion: In the summer, just not sure which year yet....

I am in to my fourth year of a 1 year project but boy does it look good....

Just thought I would share the news.

Ron

Prob will take 15 min to run a hot wire to the coil and patch in a bit of fuel line.

I can hear it from here.

Jack,

I guess the main reasons I am so excited about cranking it over are:

1- I rebuilt the engine over a year ago and was concerned that it had frozen up
2 - I FINALLY discovered that the starter switch was shorted out so every time I pulled the starter cable it simply shunted the battery to ground... I took the starter out and retested it a dozen times and you know what a pain removing the stater is...

It was one of those cases where the problem was far too simple. It couldn't be something so simple... I thought that the engine was seized or that the starter did not have enough power to turn it over. I actually bought a new starter to replace one that, as it turns out, was OK...

Anyway, I do have a brand new starter now.

On with the rebuild...let's see, where is my Moss Motors wish list...

By the way, I do expect to finish hooking up fuel, carbs, ignition, and fire that puppy up this weekend.

AWRIGHT! Glad ya have it sorted!

...after you succumbed to the classic "OverTech" predilection.

That always makes me feel soOoo sToOpId. But it never seems to teach me anything in spite of the fact I already know: "It's ALWAYS th' DUMB STUFF" that'll kick yer butt! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Ron:

Sounds great, just keep plugging along.

Are you putting in a 1500 or 1600?

We once shoved in a 1800 B hehehe.

DrEntropy,

Thanks, I feel soooo much better....

I'll let you all know if I get this thing started this weekend... This car has not been on the road, under its own power since 1974.... Let's see, 1974... I was two years married, honorably discharged from the Navy ('73), Richard Nixon was still President, gas was still under a dollar...

Been a while... I don't think that my little ol' A is going to recognize the place... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Pat,

I had considered putting an 1800 in it but decided to keep this one as original as possible... 1500 (1498cc). I have a '66 B driver that provides what peppiness needs I have...

I did see an 'A' a while back that had a 427 Ford stuft in it... Very well done but I hated to see it anyway... Ya' know the ol' OC purist in me....

Thanks for the note, by the way. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grouphug.gif
