Is there an easy to check the transmission fluid?? Ned

On later cars without the dipstick, not really! Pretty much the only way is to remove the side filler plug and either reach in with a finger to feel the oil level, or just start slowly adding oil until it begins to come back out! Primitive, but effective!

My 59 TR3 has the dipstick but on my TR4 I added a hole & rubber plug to allow (slightly) more convenient access to the fill plug:

That's the same size rubber plug as used for accessing the front U-Joint, others have used a jack-hole plug. Of course the TR4 tunnel was a bit easier to do this on as it is cardboard rather than metal.

BTW Ned -- did you used to live in Tucson? Or are there two TR3 owners named Ned Rubin?
